Original gifts to celebrate Mother's Day

Regalos originales para celebrar el día de la madre

At OMG BCN we have the most original gifts for moms, mums and bad moms
A few days ago we invited you to honor fathers, and now it's clear that it's time to applaud and celebrate mothers. Long live all moms, "motomami" (a slang term for mothers who are also "bad moms"), and even "bad moms"! Mother's Day coincides with May 1st, International Workers' Day, so you have a double excuse to give a gift to the women in your life. At OMG BCN, we've selected the most original and stylish gift ideas for Mother's Day.

Fragility and curves

If you like small brands that blend design and craftsmanship, take a look at the offerings of DSNÚ , winner of the 2020 National Crafts Award in the entrepreneurship category, creates collections that embrace simplicity and play with lines and planes. The project's creators come from the worlds of art and architecture. Ceramics, their primary material, is the star of the Fragments collection, where each necklace evokes a different landscape.

Fantasy in the ear

The costume jewelry of Orella (ear in Catalan) is pure fantasy. They work with laser-cut methacrylate and thus manage to create lightweight earrings with a wide repertoire of shapes and colors: flowers, hands, eyes, smiling faces, borders and other symbols are part of the repertoire of the Barcelona brand that knows how not to go unnoticed.

The Mediterranean in an 'almost' vase

Eighth Collaborates with designer Jaime Hayón on his new collection of vases (or 'almost vases': they're made of paper and foldable, as we mentioned in a post about floral decorations). Hayón's line drawings are dynamic, have a touch of humor, and synthesize everything that inspires the designer: lost worlds, anthropology, and nature. You can choose between the blue and white models; we find both incredibly elegant and fun.

A season of color and prints!

If you know us at all, you already know that we've been working with Wow . They use recycled fabrics and production takes place in Barcelona (this and other brands were featured in a post about sustainable design). They also have a keen eye for choosing the best prints for their laptop cases, toiletry bags, scrunchies… If you're not afraid of a lot of prints in your outfits and accessories, you'll love choosing from Amour's hearts, the Cadaqués breakfast, and the Blue Birds headband.

Vegan bags

Essential and minimalist shapes, soft and understated colors. This is the formula of the Dutch brand. Monk & Anna , and the reason why their bags are successful and timeless. Another point in their favor is that they work with vegan leather to move towards increasingly environmentally conscious production. For those looking for a versatile, small, elegant, and functional bag, this is your brand; for slightly more special occasions, we suggest the Jugoya bag.

It smells so good

Candles are kind companions on dark days, filling rooms with fragrance, purifying the air, and helping us disconnect and reconnect, especially during meditation. They make a lovely gift for mothers and friends. At OMG BCN, we've selected candles from To:From because they are handcrafted with essential oils and natural soy wax, and because we love their aromas.

An enlightened world

Ana Jarén She paints domestic spaces and everyday scenes with great attention to detail and nods to aspects of adult life (motherhood and the pleasure of sharing breakfasts, apartments, and rituals with friends). Her compositions, with their agile and playful lines and cheerful, vibrant colors, are reminiscent of graphic novels for young adults.

Ana De Lima , whom we interviewed about her installation on the OMG BCN stairs (you'll be able to read it soon), draws inspiration from nature to create fantasy worlds and dreamlike landscapes, meticulously crafted with fine, delicate strokes. We love how she combines colors and how she incorporates black in works like 'The Tallest Lighthouse in the World'.

Do you know those classic drawings that boys and girls dedicate to their mothers? We could say that's how it all started. Blanca Gómez , who now designs and creates illustrations for various clients on a global scale. Her compositions, the warm tones of her work, the moon in "The Blue Hour," that leap into the void in "The Swimmer"... We highly recommend her.

A different kind of scarf

It may seem like a conventional gift, but the handkerchiefs of Studio Arde They're quite the opposite: bright, square canvases of varying sizes, illustrated with figurative and geometric motifs. The brand also designs bandanas, the perfect gift for moms who love accessories from head to toe.
